The Accountant's Ultimatum Behind Carlos Augusto: Inter Salary and Net Worth (2026)

Every title-winning squad needs one player the coach can drop into almost any gap on the left side and then stop worrying about. At Inter, that player is Carlos Augusto. He isn't the name on the posters (Federico Dimarco owns that flank's highlight reel). But ask who can start at wing-back on Saturday, switch to left centre-back on Wednesday and never make the shape wobble, and the answer is the Brazilian in the number 30 shirt. He's 27 and under contract to 2028. Inter now have to decide whether he's a luxury backup or something more.

Campinas, and a Deal With Dad

Football wasn't the plan. Carlos grew up in Campinas, in São Paulo state, and started playing at seven only after asking his father to sign him up with a local team. His father, an accountant, wasn't the type to indulge a hobby forever. At one point he laid it out plainly: land a professional contract, or come and work with him.

That kind of ultimatum either crushes a teenager or sharpens him. Carlos went to Corinthians and worked his way through the academy. Tellingly, he was used further forward as a youngster before coaches found him a better home out wide and deeper. That shift, from attacker to a defender who still thinks like one, explains a lot about the player he became.

Serie B Was the Making of Him

He made his Corinthians first-team debut in 2018 and collected domestic honours before leaving for Italy in 2020. The destination was Monza, then in Serie B. It proved a smart choice. He became a regular, helped the club win promotion, and then did something plenty of promoted players can't. He got better in the top flight.

His 2022/23 Serie A season was the breakout: six league goals and five assists from wing-back. Numbers like that get noticed just down the road in Milan.

Loan, Title, Permanent Deal

Inter took him in August 2023 on a loan with an option to buy, plus conditions that would make the move permanent. He didn't need long. He played regularly across competitions in a season that brought the Serie A title, and with it the second star above the badge, along with the Italian Super Cup. The permanent deal followed in 2024 for a reported package of about €15.25 million.

His adaptation was almost boringly sensible. He kept things simple, ran hard, followed instructions and trusted his left foot. When injuries or suspensions thinned the back line, he offered something few wing-backs will: a shift at centre-back.

Why a Part-Time Starter Is Worth €23 Million

Estimates put his transfer value at about €23 million in May 2026. That can look generous for someone who doesn't always start. It stops looking generous once you list what he actually provides.

  • Three jobs, one player. Left wing-back, left-back or left centre-back in a back three, with no tactical rewiring required.
  • Size where wing-backs usually lack it. At 1.84 metres he defends crosses and attacks set pieces better than most players in his role.
  • Legs. He has the stamina for overlaps and the recovery pace to get back when possession is lost.
  • Experience. Serie A, the Champions League and senior caps for Brazil.

Add a contract running to June 2028 and Inter are under no pressure to entertain a cut-price bid. Our view: he's underrated precisely because his best quality, making everyone around him more comfortable, never shows up in a highlights package.

What He Earns, as Far as Anyone Can Tell

Carlos Augusto's estimated fixed gross salary for 2026/27 is about €2.82 million a year. That works out at roughly €54,200 a week before tax and bonuses. Football wage figures come from reporting and payroll analysis, not published payslips, so treat them as informed estimates rather than fact.

Icon Polls estimates his net worth at €8 million to €10 million. That range draws on his contracts, reported career earnings, bonuses, transfer history and likely commercial income. His personal finances aren't public, and no official figure exists.

Brazilian Shirt, Italian Passport

He's Brazilian, and Brazil is the country he represents. He made his senior debut for the Seleção in 2023 and had four caps by 2026. He also holds Italian citizenship through family links reflected in his full surname, Zopolato Neves.

That second passport matters more than it sounds. In Serie A it means he doesn't occupy one of the limited non-EU squad places, which quietly adds to his appeal for any Italian club, Inter included.

Off the Pitch

There's no reliable confirmation that Carlos Augusto is married or has a current partner. He keeps his private life private, and his interviews tend to stick to football, teammates, his upbringing and his ambitions. We'll leave it there too.

Where 2028 Leaves Him

At the start of 2026/27 he had two seasons left on his deal, exactly the window when clubs start weighing a renewal against a sale. For Carlos, the question is simple. Does he stay Inter's most reliable spare part, or push for a guaranteed starting role, whether in Milan or elsewhere? He's in his prime years, and the next contract decision will say a lot about how Inter really see him.

He's a long way from the all-time conversation, but if you have strong opinions on who belongs there, vote in our poll on the best football players of all time.
